Don't become attached to a nomad- The nomad will come and go but sometimes never return, which could really hurt, as it hurt Ron Franz when Chris never returned.

Don't underestimate the dangers of something- Chris underestimated his adventure to Alaska. He told everyone who strongly cared about him in Carthage that he would be back by fall. He never returned, of course, and his friends, like Wayne, Borah, and Mary were all confused and upset.

Don't go into the wild un-prepared- Many of the men did this, ending up dead, mainly from starvation.

Don't assume someone will always be there to rescue you- McCunn is a perfect example. He went out to the mountains and tried to make his un-realistic fantasies come true. He didn't bother calling for a return plane, because he thought someone would automatically just show up to rescue him. He was wrong to assume that, and ended up dead.
